Learning Skill #1 - Freehand Uppercase Letters and Numerals

PROPORTION OF LETTERS: Notice that the letters in the figure are arrange according to proportion. The group of letters "TOM Q VAXY" measures 3x3 grids while the rest except 'W' which measures 3x2 and ½ grid. The numerals however measures 2x3 grid except the number 1.

STROKES TECHNIQUE: All vertical and curve strokes should start from the top to bottom while horizontal strokes should start from left to right. In constructing letters and numerals with curve
or circular strokes, always base the stroking according to imaginary ellipse or circle to attain its perfect stems. Keep in mind the 'single-stroke' technique is the standard way of constructing letters.

PLATE INSTRUCTION:
  1. Use properly sharpened Hb engineering drawing pencil.
  2. Print the drawing paper size A4 with grids.
  3. Fill up the title block properly. Note that the height of letters in the title compartment is 7mm while the rest of the letters in other compartment is 5mm. Avoid using abbreviations.
  4. Plate #1 title is 'GOTHIC UPPERCASE LETTERS AND NUMERALS 1'. just copy the arrangement of letters in the figure though each letter should be drawn 3 times including the numerals.
  5. Plate #2 title is 'GOTHIC 'UPPERCASE LETTERS AND NUMERALS 2' In this plate the letters and numerals in the figure should be arrange alphabetically but draw each letter 3 times including the numerals.
  6. Plate #3 title is 'GOTHIC UPPERCASE LETTERS COMPOSITION'. In this plate, a paragraph below should be lettered according to grids proportion. However, disregard punctuations and spacing per word but allow 1 grid between letters.
  7. Submission of the plates is on the second virtual session.
